How Should it Work?

Even though my client had defined objectives and directions for this platform, the need for research was still a priority.

My research objectives were to understand how B2B learning platforms work, understand the competitors, and identify the different user groups for these platforms. I conducted interviews, surveys, and utilized analytics to get insights and formulate personas that would guide design decisions.

Four Different User Groups

After diving into the research and bouncing ideas around with my client, we nailed down a cool blueprint for the platform. We've got a clear picture of the different users and what each one's after. It's been a fun puzzle to solve together.

We've identified four main user groups for the platform:

  • The 'Course Creator', responsible for developing engaging course materials.

  • The 'Platform Admin', who ensures the platform is configured perfectly for client needs.

  • The 'Client Admin' manages users on the client's side, overseeing the learning process.

  • The 'Learner', who is the central user engaging with the platform to gain knowledge.

Each group has it's own needs and problem, which we will tackle one by one in the next phases.

Persona & Problem: The Learner's Needs Unfolded

I decided to start with the learners user group, addressing their needs, since it’s the core of this product.

With the extensive research I did, I was able to define the first persona, and a problem statement to reflect their needs.

Design Approach

I wanted to get something ready quickly to visualize my design ideas, and I used a hybrid approach where I made some sketches and then transform them into mid-fidelity wireframes, this was a very collaborative process where I met with my stakeholder frequently to hone and polish the ideas before starting the usability test.

Learning-first experience

At the heart of Elevate, we're all about making waves—the good kind that lifts everyone up!

We know that way too many corporate training sessions are time thieves, offering no returns for the organization. That's not how we roll! Our goal isn't just to cross the finish line and tick the boxes; but it's to rev up with relevant skills and make every moment supremely rewarding.

To support this mission, we've crafted tools like our flashcards tool, which is super user-friendly and right there on the main page. We've observed that learners who use flash cards often pop into the platform just to give their flash cards a workout, and we're all for it!

Design System:

After conducting some usability testing, and making some necessary changes, I created a design system that incorporated the brand's ethos -- modern, sophisticated, strong and accessible.

User Flows and Wireframes

Key user flows for course discovery, profile management, and course interaction were designed. From the wireframes, I created detailed high-fidelity designs, with seamless user experiences and visual appeal.

Reflections & Learning:

Familiarity is good:

Creating familiar UX & UI patterns for specific experiences that users are familiar with is a good practice, the tendency to create something unique can affect the usability severely.

This case study traces my journey in sculpting 'Elevate' into a robust and reliable learning platform. Through methodical research, strategic design, and iterative improvements, I delivered an experience that not only aligned with users' expectations but also elevated the learning process for organizations.
